Root is a smaller group within LUDD that takes care of LUDD's datacenters. They are responsible for maintenance, administration, configuration, and everything else involved in making sure it works as well as it can.

Traditionally root has consisted of 3-6 administrators that have been responsible for all computer systems including LCNet, mail, vortex, and all physical servers in T1.
In 2020 and 2024 we introduced changes in an attempt to involve more members in the administration of LUDD:s systems. This change is partly because there are more areas to administrate than before, but also to make sure that not only 3-6 people get to have all the fun!
For this purpose we have admgroups. We hope that every aspiering root will find something they find appeling.
Apart from the core root team, these are the current admin groups at LUDD. Alumni members are denoted with brackets behind their name represending the organization they work for.
Core responsibility for service discovery and orchestration, as well as provisioning. Overall responsibility for LUDD uptime. Also responsible for one-off services such as thinlinc cluster, ircshell, etc.
MembersResponsible for edge (routers), trafficlb and switches. Also handles DHCP & DNS.
MembersResponsible for mailservers, maillists, spam handling.
