When I first heard of a Swedish techno duo that called themselves
Antiloop ('94? '95?) I thought "hey, that's a pretty cool name for
a techno project - 'we sure just don't loop stuff', hehe...". Then I
actually heard the music, which didn't strike me as being anything
exceedingly exceptional. Ok, fine, they're Swedish and they do a pretty
decent job of it, but there's so much else out there rather like it.
Then, suddenly (was it in '96 or '97 perhaps?), they were the hottest
new Swedish dance act, and won all sorts of prizes and awards.
Nothing much had changed, so I still couldn't see what all the fuss
was about. Nice to see them doing well abroad of course, but... I don't
know, it's all a bit too disco-ish and samey to me to be really interesting.
Then there was this cool video on MTV with a factory manfacturing
glowing blue halos, which people then walked around with. Pretty nifty
idea. It appealed to my sense of humour. The tune wasn't too shabby either,
some sort of techno/dance stuff, relying rather heavily on blippy
pizzicato-type sounds reminiscent of Faithless 'Insomnia'. Not the best
dance track I've ever heard, but Ok. Just about as much into eurodisco
territory as I can stand without getting nasuea attacks. Turns out it
was Antiloop (surprise!), specifically this track.
Never thought I'd actually
buy it, but today I was on a CD sale shopping craze and found this CD single
for a mere 5:- SEK (twice that amount will buy you a can of Coke in this
country, which means it was a pretty cheap single). I thought "hey, what
the heck, it's not too bad a track and it's really cheap... who knows, one
day I might be nostalgic about it...".
