Swedish synth pop, which almost sounds a bit like
Page at first, but after a few listens
you'll hear they've got a style of their own. Perhaps a bit more modern
'feel' than Page, with a sort of light techno flavour. A healthy touch of
silliness; the lyrics are somewhat naive in places, but it's probably
deliberately and fits well with the music.
Track 1 has a very '90:s' synthy bassline feel, and a very '80:s'
lead synth melody. Interesting and quite catchy, but it lacks a real
addictive chorus. The lead synth sort of makes up for that, though.
Track 2, on the other hand, is very catchy. It's a lot poppier,
and very bouncy. Sort of naive/silly lyrics and less 'mature' than the
previous track, but very good. I like it more and more every time I hear
it. I can hum this tune for hours. Classic synth pop sound with a hint
of techno blips.
Finally, the last track starts off really well. It sound like
retro-1981 or something, with an OMD-ish synth blip melody and a very
nice resonant bassline. Unfortunately, the chorus is silly and cheesy to
the point of embarrassement. A pity really, since the rest of the song
is very good. I particularly like those bass fills after the first chorus. :-)
All in all, a very good and truly blippy CD single. No wonder they picked
that name. If you understand Swedish you might appreciate the humour of
this band; if not you can just enjoy the music.
(Maybe it's just me, but now that I've seen the instrument list on their
homepage I
can swear I hear that Juno-106 in places...)
