Swedish EBM-industrial-techno band Covenant returns with a bang - this sure is
one stomping CDM. Their previous album
Dreams Of A Cryotank, while good in its
own right, pales in comparison with these new tracks and seem almost like feeble
amateurish attempts at EBM. This is a lot more well-produced, and the vocals are
stronger. The new song 'Figurehead' is probably the most powerful, but the old track
'Speed' has been rather drastically re-made and injected with a great
dose of energy. No, I don't mean like those testosterone pumped German 'industrial'
crossover bands the world seems to be full of, but a good healthy level of noise
and distortion to match the intense songs. If you can keep yourself from dancing
when playing this loud there's either something wrong with your feet or you just
don't appreciate purely electronic no-guitar energetic EBM when you hear it.
'Voices' has also been remixed, but not to the same extreme extent as 'Speed'.
I think Optocode is the group responsible for this (as well as the slower second
remix of 'Speed' - a "slow speed"?), but I don't know any of their own work.
People tell me it's
Kraftwerk-ish,
but these remixes are not. While good, they're
not as excellent as the two first tracks. Frankly, I see no reason to not
buy this CDM.
However, since I've later bought the
Theremin EP, this CD has become obsolete, been traded off
and is currently no longer in my possession.
