Comments:
Seconde-rate synthpop band that devolved into the utterly horrible and despicable cheesy rave-poppers Scooter. While CTN were pretty cheesy in their day they could be kind of catchy at times, whereas Scooter is purely annoying. Time and time again I ask myself how they can produce such nonsense and not be embarrassed by it ("Fahs-tah! Hah-dah! Scuu-tah!"). Now, I'm not just a grumpy old kid-of-the-80:s who only loves synthpop - I have my share of techno and dance music, it's just that Scooter are so incredibly bad at it. Sooooo bad. I'd even rather be subjected to the pink bubblegum flavour-of-the-day teenybopper crap than Scooter. Really.
Enough about Scooter. CTN sound like a cheap version of Camouflage with a mid-80 synth-cheese twist. Kind of. It's pretty good and catchy at times, but it's generally a bit too slick and smooth to quite suit me, and there's something about his voice I don't quite like. The chorus is usually pretty catchy, but the verse lyrics leave something to be desired; often a kind of romaticised "I did this, she did that" dull everyday life description list of actions.
Had I heard CTN in, say, 1986 when I was young and not too critical about things I might have really enjoyed it, but now... nah. It leaves me pretty indifferent. Since I'm quite interested in music it's a good reference point as to what was to come later, though. They didn't always suck immensely, just a little bit. And now I'll go put on some music I really like to get my mood up again.
