Comments:
Dave Stewart founded this band after his old band Eurythmics split up and Annie Lennox pursued a solo career. The Spiritual Cowboys released (to my knowledge) only two albums, of which this is the first and supposedly better.
The music style reminds me only a little bit of Eurythmics at times; specifically their more guitarey songs. Three or four of the songs are excellent slow ballad type songs with lovable lyrics, quite insightful (4, 6, 7, 9). Some other songs are a bit too much Leonard-Cohen-wannabe-ish, and not very good at that (5). Others are rather up-tempo rock-pop (2, 8, 10, 12), some catchy and some forgettable, and there's the obvious pop single 'Jack Talking' as well (supposedly about Jack Nicholson).
In all, a reasonably good pop album with songs better than most, if you skip the not-so-good tracks. It's nice to hear Dave's voice, which was quite uncommon in the days with vocalist Lennox.
