This, the second single off
Violator, is by many considered to be the
best Depeche Mode song ever. I'm not sure I agree, but it is a very good track,
both musically and lyrically. The music is a lot more synthetic
that on the previous single, but there
is still a guitar there. It's not quite as apparent, even if
it plays the lead melody; it's very nicely played - spacey and dark. The
lyrics are very well written, and the point is clear: no need for words,
when the moment is perfect in itself. (At least that's my
interpretation of it.)
So, what about the mixes? Well, the 7" is pretty basic, but they usually
are. The 'hands and feet' is a bit more dancey and dreamy at the same time;
a very good mix. 'Ecstatic' is more or less instrumental, with a few short
vocal samples here and there. Great if you want to 'enjoy the silence' from
lack of words (horrible pun, I know).
'Sibeling' is a very nice and slow piano piece; it could easily fit into
the Little 15 single. I like it.
