This album shows a more experimental side of Erasure, with longer songs and more instrumental parts, something I enjoy quite a bit. They're still synth pop songs, only like "extended mixes" or something, growing beyond the standard pop formula. I like that. I like this album more than I Say I Say I Say. People usually compare this album to Pink Floyd for its long tracks, and I can see why, even if it's an unlikely comparison. 'Rock Me Gently' even has some very un-Erasure-esque Pink Floyd-ish chord sequences. Nice to hear they're doing something different. Unfortunately, not a lot of people agreed with me, and this album did rather poorly in comparison to their previous huge successes, whereupon Vince proclaimed that the next album (Cowboy) would be poppier. What a shame. Well, I guess I'll find out eventually how it turned out.
