Comments:
A synth pop collection CD from Delta 2, whatever that is. Some of these bands are new to me, some I have on other compilations. Each band gets two songs each. Some of it is in Swedish, but most of it is in English. Here's a quick review:
The CD starts off with a couple of slow synth pop tracks from Lorelei De Lux; very pleasant tunes with female vocals in Swedish. Following that is the rather whiney and annoying Secluded Place with two equally whining songs. They really should work on their Swedish accents. After that, Laura Effect comes as a relief with a couple of really poppy songs. Ok, so their Swedish accent is also very apparent, and they're also somewhat whiney, but not as annoying as that of the previous band. One band with a unique style of their own is Bellman's Brother: angelic female vocals to sampled drumloops and distorted synths. The voice seems a bit misplaced at first, but after a while when you get used to it it sounds really nice. The first of their two songs here is the poppiest and most 'instant hit' IMHO. Laid back mellow synth pop of Natasha Beauty Bar follows, one of which a little too heavy on the bass I think. Brave New World (now Sequential?) is also a bit whiney and with a notable Swedish accent, but not as bad as SP above. Their second has a (to me) very obvious DM drum sample, but other than that I like it more than their first song. Blixt ('Flash' or 'Lightning' in English) starts off with a powerful tune that reminds me a little bit of Covenant (mostly the singing) and perhaps more of Static Icon or Mesh. A nice bouncy tune about contemplating suicide. Their second song isn't as much an obvious hit as the previous, but still rather good. A bit weak on the lyrical side, though. Sub City Cinema end the compilation with their two songs; the first is a rather slow song which reminds me a little of Nothing Stays by Cyberaktif, at least until the drums (sampled loops) kick in. The last song of the CD is also fairly slow, but a bit darker and with samples from 'The Crow' and possibly other movies as well. Rather good.
