Another side project of Bill Leeb & Rhys Youth Fulber from
Front Line Assembly, perhaps
using the time otherwise invested in the (at the time, 1992) sleeping project
Delerium (which was brought
back to life again in 1994). This however is
not ambient, but rather like techno with sampled hip-hop-ish drumloops and
movie voice samples. The more melodic tracks 'Anguish', 'Targeted', 'Voices' and a
few others are excellent, whereas 'S+M=Y' strike me as less imaginative and boring,
mainly built around Hellraiser samples. The vocal samples of 'Targeted' are simply
stunning, and gave a little introduction to where
Delerium was to head in the future. Some of
the tracks also have sampled orchestraic string sequences, reminding me a bit of what
808 State (which incidently also has been sampled in a
few tracks) did occasionally.
