Comments:
Minimalistic synthpop or primitive proto-EBM? Hard, simple drum machines (mostly 808:s and 606:es, to my ears; no 909:s), simple synth basslines, a monotone female voice rambling gibberish lyrics and occasionally a few synth chords and possibly even a little melody. No drumloops, no movie samples, no distortion, no screaming guitars. Quite refreshing in its simplicity, although heavily reminiscent of the emerging synth scene of the early '80:s (not so much Anne Clarke as you would imagine, but still somewhat similar, I guess). The singer Miss Kittin (if she really can be called "singer", as she merely talks fairly rhythmically and very monotonously), poses on the cover in a nurse outfit, wearing handcuffs in a rather suggestive S/M fashion. The Hacker poses in a black suit, holding a gun.
In all its simplicity, I very much enjoyed their show at the Arvikafestival 2002 so I proceeded to promptly run off to buy it as soon as the show was over. I'm not disappointed, but a friend who decided to walk out of the show wasn't particularly impressed by the CD either. Well, I like it.
