At the end of 2004, Swedish Radio P3 held their annual
awards show. This was later broadcast on TV as well.
As I was channelsurfing, I came across this award show and was stopped in my tracks. On screen was
some blonde woman, dressed in all black, singing her heart out backed by a string orchestra and
a pounding beat. It was great, but I had no idea who she was.
Later, I heart a studio version of this song on the radio, and it was attributed to Robyn.
"Robyn? Impossible! I like this song, as opposed to all that teen-crap bubblegum radio pop
she makes..." Apparently, either Robyn had grown up, or maybe I had. Probably her. It bothered me a bit
that an artist that I had previously disliked so much could produce a song I really liked, but I felt big
enough to admit I liked it and was forced to reevaluate my opinions of her.
So, I eventually bought the single. While not quite as excellent as the live performance,
it's still a good pop song, but it does tend to get old rather quickly due to the repetative chorus.
I'd much rather have a live version of it, where there are certain small pauses that elevate the
emotional delivery drastically. Also, there's a somewhat embarrassing spoken part in the middle,
but fortunately it's not very long.
