It doesn't clearly say when these songs were recorded, but I'd guess late '50:s to early '70:s or so. Either way, they're from an era when R'n'B was a genre that was based on both rhythm and blues, as opposed to what passes for R'n'B these days. This collection does not sound like the '90:s abuse of this name. Frankly, I can't see any similarity at all between Ray Charles and R Kelly. Well, except that they're both black and both wear sunglasses.
It's actually quite fun to hear different (original?) versions of songs that I've previously only heard stiff white people cover, like 'Shake Rattle & Roll' and 'Lucky Lips' (anyone remember Cliff Richard's version?).
