Updated versions of Avalanche Breakdown. From what I've gathered, that album, the band name, the album name, the song themes and titles, the lyrics, the specific synth sounds and generally everything involved were deliberately chosen to be as cliched to the genre as possible. Well, mostly, those goals were clearly achieved, but regardless the resulting album was most excellent. These new versions, not so much. While still rather good, it lacks the certain cool clear crisp detachment that drew me into the first album. Now they're just pretty good synthpop songs. I'd say their epitome achievement must be the superb My Analyst Says remix that drives that philosophy to its logical conclusion. Super-ultra-cold-clear-pure-synthetic-cliche. But oh, so, very very enjoyable.
