Comments:
Silicon Teens is not, as the cover indicates, a band of four teenagers playing synths and making cover versions of old '50:s tunes. In fact, the band consist of Daniel Miller, legendary founder of the Mute record label, home for many interesting bands but mostly well-known for hosting the likes of Depeche Mode and Erasure. Miller also had the short-lived project The Normal, which was even more bizarre.
So, what does it sound like then? Well, it's more funny than good to my ears, but it's pretty darn funny. Imagine these oldies played on little toy keyboards, tiny plastic toy drums and sung by someone who should never go near a microphone. Sometimes it works really well, and sometimes... well, it's not always as good. The best tracks are probably their own tracks, like 'T.V. Playtime' and 'Sun Flight' (one could easily imagine where Page and S.P.O.C.K got their admitted inspiration from), but some of the covers are also quite good, like 'You Really Got Me', 'Doo-Wa-Diddy-Diddy', 'Let's Dance' (at least the "slow" version), 'Do You Love Me', 'Just Like Eddie', 'Red River Rock'... come to think of it, I actually like most of these tunes, even though they're quite cheesy. This is a 1993 rerelease of old vinyls originally released in 1979-80.
