Comments:
This is truly super-synthetic, electronic space pop. Imagine Vince Clarke's younger brother doing the music, and Mr. Spock writing the lyrics. Very silly and amusing. The band consists of Android (vocals), Cybernoid (FX) and Capt. Eddie B Kirk (music), where the first two are supposedly Mr. Spock of Star Trek split into two after an unfortunate beaming accident. Hmm...
S.P.O.C.K was initially going to be called 'Mr. Spock', but there seemed to be some legal dispute over the name. Instead, they chose the acronym for 'Space Pilot On Channel K', which, by pure coincidence, is quite similar to the original name.
'Never Trust A Klingon' is a true cult classic; the lyrics are so incredibly funny, and the tune is very catchy, with some raw, synthetic Kraftwerk type beat. The bassline is fast and pounding, almost EBM-like. Even some of my friends (not normally into synthetic music) have been caught humming this tune. "Never, ever, never trust a Kliiiiingoooonnnn..."
The other tracks are very good as well, but not with such an obvious Star Trek theme. Still within the sci-fi genre, though. Track 2 is, as the title indicates, about an android and what it means to be one. The title of track 3 sort of reminds me quite a lot of some space movie I saw a few years ago about some nasty aliens. However, the lyrics aren't about that, but more about some space ship attack.
'Never Trust A Klingon' was later also released on the album Five Year Mission.
