My younger brother doing his solo stuff, playing all sorts of instruments (guitars, drums, organs, synths, bass, computers and whathaveyous) which I'm sure he'll tell me about when he reads this, as opposed to just playing the drums in various other bands. Sort of in the "alternative singer/songwriter" genre. Maybe. I've heard him play most of these songs live for a the past couple of years, and wanting to get at least some versions of them recorded. While these versions are not as bare and stripped down as his one-man-and-a-guitar-live-at-a-small-club sessions, at some level, this stuff really touches me. I don't know if it's just because it's my brother doing it, or if it's because of a similar (or damn close to identical) cultural background, or what else. It just evokes some kind of emotion. I imagine I detect some sort of far northern feel of melancholy that you get from growing up where we did, being frozen solid for most of the year, but that could just be my overactive imagination.
