• Figlet converts text to big "ascii fonts". Figlet is good! Figlet will clean your kitchen! Figlet will cure your headache! Get Figlet!

• JAVE (Java ASCII Versatile Editor) is one of the more interesting (read: runs on my computer) ascii art editors. It includes gif-to-ascii functionality, Figlet generator, and other useful things.

• GIF2TXT Yet another attempt to "convert" gif images to ascii "art". (I guess my link collection would not be complete without one, even if they do all suck.)

Newsgroups

• alt.ascii-art (The ascii art newsgroup!)
• rec.arts.ascii (aaa's moderated sister group, which is, unfortunately, quite dead. which has been brought back to life again, lets see what happens...)
• alt.ascii-art.animation (About animating ascii art. Most of the time it's empty, but occasionally you can find some really interesting things there.)
• alt.binaries.pictures.ascii (A binaries group about ascii art. Useful for posting, e.g. screen shots or gif or jpeg pictures that one wants help with "converting" to ascii (such pictures should not be posted in the text-only groups))
• pl.rec.ascii-art (A Polish group. Lots of miniature pictures and some really talented artists can be found there.)
• de.alt.rec.ascii-art and kiel.ascii-art (two German groups)
