The 10th anniversary of the release of the true cult classic
'Mer Jul' ('More Christmas') was celebrated with a new version
(and two remixes of that). Still funny, but the
old version from
'81 is better by far. All the spacey minimalistic analogue synthwork
is gone in the new versions, replaced by some 'funky' drums, sample-based
synths and piano sounds, and tons of FX. The vocals are also remade
and the melody changed somewhat. Well, the extra FX in the extended
dance ('långdans', a good pun) version are quite chaotic and amusing,
giving that confused christmas feeling when you have to be in the middle
of everything and there's so much to do, so many relatives to meet,
so many presents to buy, so many TV show christmas specials to see.
It gives a bit different impression than the ambiguous old version.
