Comments:
I won this demo tape in a competition on the Blipp homepage. (Thanks a lot, Lars :-)
So, how does it compare to the CD single? Well, it feels a bit more modern, and somewhat rougher in production, but hey - this is a demo. The sound is like an evolution from 'I Skymningen', but the songs here are generally catchier.
Track 1 starts of with some techno-ish chords, and then takes off and jumps into synth pop heaven. It's a catchy song with great sing-along potential, even if the lyrics are sort of surreal. Another one of those great synth leads, reminding me of the early 80:s.
Following that is a song with instantly appeals to my taste for light sarcasms. The lyrics are about people that really annoy me, and apparently not only me; arrogant and trendy people on TV. The tune? Excellent synth pop, no doubt about that.
Track 3 is the most 'techno-ish' of the four, but it's still very much synth pop. The tune is very catchy and bouncy, and the lyrics are in the vein of "another thousand years has passed; we know the past but what is our future?" in a semi-naive way.
Track 4 is even bouncier, and quite fast. Another classic synth pop melody line, like I've heard it before but can't place it. I love it. Lyrics? "Sending signals to you" etc. Fits the tune rather well.
So, isn't there anything bad about this demo tape? Yep. You bet there is. It's too short. The songs might not benefit much from being longer (perhaps a little, though), it's just that they're too few. Where is 'Du Och Han' from the homepage? Ok, maybe I'm not the target market here (if such a thing exists), but I wouldn't mind if there were some more songs on this tape, maybe some older ones or something. This may not be a good thing if the tape is intended to promote the band for record labels, though.
Anyway, I sure hope the tunes on this tape will be released on CD, since the signal-to-noise ratio and production could improve somewhat. Will Blipp! ever release an album? They seem to have enough material for one at least. I can only hope. (On a side note, I'm convinced I can hear that Juno-106 again here and there.)
