Comments:
With members like Bernard Sumner of New Order and Johnny Marr of The Smiths, how can you fail? You can't. This is an excellent album, mixing the style of these two great bands and occasionally throwing in some Pet Shop Boys into the mix, largely due to guest appearences from Neil Tennant and to a lesser degree also Chris Lowe. However, the PSB influence isn't entirely of good; both 'The Patience Of A Saint' and 'Getting Away With It' are kind of weak. PSB themselves sounded better than this at this time, and the non-PSB Electronic tracks are also better. Still, it's an interesting collaboration.
Many of the songs sound like something from the New Order album Technique with some Marr guitarwork, but a few songs sticks out a bit from this winning formula, namely 'Idiot Country' and 'Feel Every Beat', where Sumner is experimenting with some kind of rap. This may seem like a completely disgusting idea (at least to the New Order purist), but it works really well. A bit funkier than the rest, and quite good indeed.
In short, this is a great New Order / Smiths type pop album I wouldn't want to be without. It's simply great.
