The remixed version of this song is a bit freshened up, slightly faster
and has a few extra lines after the chorus. All that is fine by me, but
they've also added an acidy synth bass sound that annoys me a little.
'Restrain' is a bouncy, poppy synth tune that sound a lot like something
from the early 80:s, perhaps Data
or some Vince Clarke project - early
Depeche Mode,
Yazoo or even
Erasure. Track 3 is
also a bit in that vein, although a bit less bouncy and more in the minor keys.
I guess the use of them ancient drum machines add to the 80:s feel.
If you can imagine a 'techno' remix of an Elegant Machinery song, the
'exomic' is what it would sound like. Lots of 'techno' flavour, and significantly
faster than both the 'new version' and the
album version. Too fast to sing,
it seems, since Robert has it hard to find time to breathe in between words.
It's not really a bad remix, it just sounds a bit misplaced with the EM vocals.
Somehow, it reminds me of the 'techno' remixes of the old
Bronski Beat song
Smalltown Boy.
