People told me Float was this great new synth pop band. I found this single
really, really cheap, so I figured I'd give them a chance. Later, I read in reviews
they sound "exactly like
The Beloved or
Electronic". Well, I can't say I agree completely,
but there are some similarities. The first track is a fairly catchy dancey tune,
and while bordering to Eurodisco it's still pretty OK as 'synth pop'. Very radio
friendly and fluffy, but too easy to forget. The second track is better IMHO, but
that might be because it is quite similar to Electronic, specifically
some track on the first album. The vocals are
actually the biggest difference; if it hadn't been for them I might have mistaken
this for a new Electronic track. Nobody sounds like Barney. But if it was
an Electronic track, it would be sort of mid-standard; not among their best.
And, I might add, I didn't find much on this single that reminded me of The
Beloved, even if this might be the case on the Float album. Well OK, perhaps some
faint resemblance in the first track, but it's much more like standard radio pop
anyways.
Since I didn't spend more than for a regular Coke on this single, I can't say
I'm disappointed. It's poppy enough to play to my girlfriend.
