Comments:
"Faster, harder, louder? No...". That was the slogan they used when promoting this album, calling the music "silent pop". So what does it sound like? Well, apart from his somewhat weak voice, I love this album. The music is simply brilliant to my ears; slow, sweeping, relaxing and yet catchy pop music, very melodic. It's mostly synthetic, but there are some spacey guitars in there as well. Sometimes it sounds a bit like the Depeche Mode song Walking In My Shoes, but more often like Swedish band Dive (no, it has nothing to do with Dirk Ivens or industrial at all for that matter). Track 3 is an instrumental that is the only thing I've heard yet that comes close to Agent Orange in atmosphere; a sad piano melody over a slow synth bassline and some simple arpeggiated blips. Many of the songs have lo-fi drumloops, slowed down and LP-filtered. It sounds a bit cheap, but works really well with the music, making it sort of sluggish and dreamy. This music is perfect for playing in the middle of the night, when all is dark and silent. The few more upbeat songs make me think of what it would be like to mix some De/Vision with The Beloved, but the vocals keep me from taking this idea any further. Ok, so the weak vocals often fit the songs quite well, but in some places it's the only thing that keeps this album from a perfect score.
