I bet this pissed off a lot of old Depeche Mode fans; first
distorted guitars, then
funky drums and scratches,
and now gospel! Yes, it's true - synth gospel. The
instrumentation is quite like DM, but the arrangement very different.
The lyrics are half similar to those on
Walking In My Shoes, like someone
standing on trial. Is that a sense of guilt I hear?
Track 2 was originally on a film soundtrack; it was from Wim Wenders'
film Until The End Of The World.
Supposedly a very bad movie, but a great soundtrack. Anyway, the lyrics are
more of that semi-religious judgement type as on track 1, and the music is
pretty jazzy (as the title suggests). It's not the
first time DM turns slightly jazzy.
Track 3 is a bit more disharmonic than the
album version, and the drums
are more funky and hip-hop-ish as well. Too bad that excellent break in
the middle is sort of lost in this version.
The second remix of 'Rush' is more techno-ish, but a bit boring IMHO.
Too much of the original excellence is missing, at least in spirit.
