This is when Depeche Mode grows from a three-man band back to the size
of four again; enter Alan Wilder. He is
credited as co-writer of the instrumental second track, and generally
updated the 'sound' of Depeche Mode a bit - not too much, though, that was coming
up later.
'Get The Balance Right' is a nice, poppy tune with a sort of
naive, ironic political message, somewhat along the line of 'Shouldn't
Have Done That' off the
previous album.
However, the band seemed rather displeased with how the track turned out,
and therefore didn't put it on their
next album. It can be
found on the album
The Singles 81 - 85, though.
Still, I like this song, naive or not, since I'm pretty naive (and
ironic) about politics myself anyway. I mean, why is it that people can't
be nice to each other? :-)
