Comments:
People may disagree with me, but I think this album is darker than its predecessor Black Celebration. This is rather varied, perhaps a little bit poppier and up-tempo in places. The high production quality remains, if not increases: some sounds are so amazingly excellent.
One of my favourite tracks on this album is 'To Have And To Hold'. It's so full of despair and self pity that it's a great tune to feel bad to. I used to listen to it a lot back in my unhappy days. Now I still think it's an excellent song (albeit a little short), but I don't feel the need to listen to it in the same way anymore.
Please note that the short track 'Mission Impossible' right after 'Pimpf' has nothing to do with the TV-series or the movie; it's in fact a short little instrumental version of 'Strangelove', very warped and re-made. The name is not listed on the cover; I found it in the Depeche Mode FAQ.
