Comments:
A collection CD that came with Geigermeeter Magazine. It's a nice little collection; perhaps everything isn't that good, but it's an interesting mix of music. Here's a quick review:
A truly stomping track from Covenant's album Sequencer; up-tempo breakbeat/EBM. Good track by Tragic Comedy; from their album Ciphers. Growling vocals on Project-X; nice movie samples but boring song. Mesh here with one or their rockier tracks off the album In This Place Forever. Whispered vocals on drum-heavy track from Seven Trees. Not too impressed by them on X-Ray. Very catchy synth pop tune from Nemo; unfortunately somewhat bordering to Eurodisco on the drum section. I remember a guy on X-Ray with shaved head and the text 'Nemo' written with a marker pen on the side of his head. It got smeared when things got hot and bouncy. More catchy synth pop with Bellman's Brother, with their characteristic blend of angelic female vocals, sampled drumloops and dist synths. Statemachine delivers a great slow synth pop tune from their album Avalanche Breakdown. More nice, slow synth pop with Septemberfall, this time with female vocals, piano and a violin. More upbeat synth pop with Presence Of Mind; slightly 'American' feel but not to the point of annoyance. Good vocals, albeit a bit too soft. Whiney Depeche-wannabes Secluded Place here with a depressing track; they really ought to work more on the vocals. Rather good Yazoo cover from Mazarine Bleu; could be a lot worse, considering it's a cover. Rather good goth from Malaise; perhaps a bit too much like Sisters Of Mercy. No, probably a bit poppier. Acoustic guitar in a nice slow, dark song from Dark Side Cowboys. Odd sounds from La Solitude; sounds like they put a bunch of notes in a machine and hit the 'random' button. I suppose I'll have to listen quite a bit more to this before I appreciate it. Demo-like recording of All Gone playing a slow bassline-heavy track with dist guitars in the chorus. Better work a bit on that Swedish accent. Punk-ish upbeat rock from Decades; reminds me of Talking Heads, King Kurt and Ebba Grön in said order. Catchy alterna-rock from Shadowland Temples with pleasing female vocal fill-ins in the chorus ends the CD.
